Topic One:

Discuss A Foreign Affair regarding its own internal structure (what kind of film is it?) and the reaction to it by others. Relate it to the other significant “Rubble Film” made in Berlin by contrasting both film’s openings. Finally, discuss Carol Reed’s film The Third Man as it relates to Wilder’s film and to the degree you can describe from the clips seen in class and the reading on Blackboard.

Topic Two:

Discuss Ingmar Bergman, as a director and as the director of The Seventh Seal. In your response include an account of the film’s internal structure (what kind of a film is it?) as well as the view of others as to the nature of the film and, importantly, of Bergman as a director (utilizing the segment of Trespassing Bergman shown in class and available on YouTube if you wish to review, but this is not necessary, if you took notes on the clip.).
