Analyzing Reading Selection

Identify two pieces of literature from two different grade levels within your track (K-5 or 6-12) and indicate the grade level where they are being utilized. Literature selections can be short stories, novels, non-fiction, or a genre of your choice.
Determine the Lexile levels for the chosen literature and then apply the Text Complexity: Qualitative Measures Rubric to the selections.
In 500-750-words, analyze your completed text complexity rubrics. Within your analysis. include what you see as the roles and responsibilities of teachers and staff. Explain how teacher bias can influence a text complexity score. For example; a teacher who doesn’t like witchcraft may lower the text complexity of `Harry Potter.’
