While we can’t imagine the beginnings of Egyptian culture as this is lost in time, we can understand some of the tremendous contributions that culture made to the development of human civilization. This was not easily done until the discovery of the Rosetta Stone that transliterated hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek text, thereby opening an opportunity for us to read the narratives of ancient Egypt. We did have the monuments and the grave goods of their culture but until we understood the stories of these artifacts, we were unable to appreciate their significance.

Is there something in the culture of ancient Egypt as you understand it that feels familiar today or that you do today (for example, wearing an amulet or visiting the graves of your relatives)?
