Passage: Jonah 3:1-10

  1. List all of the characters mentioned in the story. Add a very brief description that explains who they are (e.g. Solomon—king of Israel, son of David and Bathsheba, built the temple).

Rank the characters in order of their significance for the story.

  1. Based on how you highlighted/shaded the narration and dialogue in your passage, write a few sentences that explain the relative proportions of characters’ speech and the narrator’s description. Also state the relative amount of speech among the different characters.
  2. List the actions of each character in your story.

Describe the issue or problem that guides the plot.

  1. State the locations where action takes place and how much time transpires in the story.
  2. List every major word that is repeated in the story and beside it note how many times it occurs and the verses where it occurs.
  3. List other literary features (quotations, foreshadowing, pathos, irony) and the verses where they appear.
