Select any one character from the course readings and compare/contrast him or her with Gregor Samsa in The Metamorphosis. Consider the influence of their environments – domestic, natural, rural, urban, familial, social, economic, temporal – upon them. Why do they behave in particular ways or make particular choices? Are their motivations primarily internal or external? In other words, to what extent are the characters’ states of mind or psychologies influenced by outside forces or factors?
