Digital Nudging is an approach based on insights from behavioral economics that applies user interface (UI) design elements to affect the choices of users in digital environments. The idea behind Digital Nudging is to subtly influence the user’s decisions by a specific presentation of the available choices. Examples from electronic commerce:
-Online Airline ticket sales: “Only 4 tickets left at the indicated price.” -Online shopping: “Experts agree that this product is the best available.-
Note that the user/customer still has the free choice. Digital Nudging can be applied to both the consumer side and the employee side. An example for the latter would be to nudge employees to use a self-service portal instead of the telephone help desk.
