CLASSMATE’S POSTThe most adaptable subjects for distance education would be history and language arts because supplemental support is abundant online. For example, a student can watch a video or read a textbook for context to learn about history. For language arts, students can read and practice writing at home.
However, the other subjects need more one-on-one attention and in-person practice. For example, teachers use manipulatives, realia, and other visuals to make sense of mathematic concepts in math. In science, lab experiments and multiple opportunities for interaction are not accessible in distance education. Music is auditory, and teaching is difficult if the instruments are not at hand.
Furthermore, adaptability depends on grade level because elementary school children have not developed the cognitive skills needed for learning without one-on-one support. Young children need a lot of movement and exploration. They cannot sit and stare at a screen all day.
