Dear Prospective Enrollee,

It is great that you are considering enrolling in the Doctor of Business Administration program here at Liberty University. There are a few things that you need to consider before making your final decision. First, you must evaluate your level of desire to accomplish this task. Accomplishing this degree should be one of your biggest desires in life and you must have the mindset that no matter what happens, you are going to finish it.

Consider

You need to consider where you currently are in your life and if pursuing this degree is the best option at the present time of your life. You do not want to commit to your degree when you have too many things going on in your life. You need to make sure that you have the time to commit to the assignments and readings that are required in each course. Ensure that you have considered the financial commitment that is associated with earning such a degree. Even if financial aid is obtained, those funds will need to be paid back at some point. There will be times that you have to sacrifice the time that you would usually spend doing leisure activities to complete readings and complete assignments by the deadline. There are times you will have to forego family events.

Advice

The advice that I would give you is to make sure that you have a good support system, time management skills, patience, and determination. There are times that you will become frustrated, tired, and overwhelmed. Having a strong support system will help you to get through those challenging times and give you that push to keep going. Talking to at least one person about your troubles while pursuing your degree can be the difference between you giving up or continuing to push on.

Managing your time is extremely important. Do not wait until the last minute to complete major assignments. Review the course syllabus the moment it is made available on Blackboard and create some type of schedule to allow adequate time to complete your assignments so that you are not rushing. I find it more effective when I create a schedule and plan to complete research on major assignments well in advance. Of course, there will be times when life happens and you will have to move things around, however, it is easier to determine how things should be moved around when you already have a schedule.

Patience is of a virtue when pursuing your doctoral degree. You do not want to rush through the courses and risk not obtaining the grade that you need to have the course count toward your degree. Also, the amount of time that it takes to obtain the degree can have a toll on some. The length of time is not very long, however, you may become impatient due to your excitement about your degree and walking across the stage for what may be your final time. Take the time to meditate and calm your spirit.

Also, make sure that you are aware of all resources and tools that are available to you for your success. Do not hesitate to reach out to the staff at Liberty. Everyone is more than willing to help you on your journey to your degree. If you do not understand the feedback that you are given from a professor, ask them for further clarification to ensure that you do not make the same mistakes going forward.

Be persistent and strong willed. And most of all, pray! “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, King James Version).

Blessings,

Brittany Hannah
