Questions:
1) The case states that Dow’s plants have historically been better at collecting data than using it. Based
on the case, describe some of the ways that Dow could use the data that is collected. What are some of
the impediments to using the data strategically? If they migrate to an EMI, how would this impact their
ability to make strategic use of their data? Please provide concrete examples from the case.
2) In class we have discussed the five V’s of Big Data. Explain how each of these are relevant to Dow’s
case. What are the requirements of their proposed system, how do the five V’s factor into those
requirements and how could they influence Cole grove’s final decision?
3) In the case, Cole grove poses the following question:
I need to identify deliverable metrics like that to make a compelling case for EMI at Dow. What
would those tangible evidences be?
Based on the case and our class discussions, provide a proposal to Cole grove on how he can make a case
for EMI. What deliverable and metrics should he look at? How can these be tracked? How do these
metrics fit within the Big Data life-cycle that we discussed in class?
4) What recommendation would you make to Cole grove? Should he move forward with EMI at Dow or
not? Provide support for your recommendation.
