engineers. This assignment will test your knowledge of sustainability concepts as well as
your ability to effectively communicate these concepts.
Chose one problem related to environmental sustainability (for example deforestation, water
use, mining, health of the Great Barrier Reef, energy provision, global warming,
sustainability of buildings, etc. or any other related topic). Students will find journal articles or
reports relating to the use of a particular sustainability analysis tool (EF, LCA, MIPS, MFA) or
environmental management approach (EIS, EMS) to solve or evaluate the identified
environmental sustainability problem.
You are required to read and analyse the paper/report and the prepare a presentation
covering the following points:
• Describe the problem in general terms
• Discuss how sustainability assessment tools could be used to solve the problem
• Detail the context of the paper/report and identify how it relates to environmental
sustainability.
• Briefly outline the situation in the paper/report, including why the tool or approach was
chosen/needed.
• Talk about the findings/conclusion of the papers/report
• Discuss (where appropriate)
