                    An ethnography is the systematic study of people and cultures. It is designed to explore cultural phenomena where the researcher observes society from the point of view of the subject of the study. As you read, think about the comment the author is making about the culture.  What revelation about the behavior of human beings or the conduct of society, or insight into the human condition is the author attempting to convey throughout the study?

OUTLINE FOR LITERARY ANALYSIS: THEME

Introduction
Introduce the book/ethnography. Include the title (underlined or in italics) and the author.
Use one or two sentences to express your personal opinions on the subject of the book
State the question you want to explore and a brief explanation of your main points (thesis)

Body
Write three paragraphs backing up your response to the question. Use examples from the ethnography, and any other material read in class that helps you explain your point.

Conclusion
Restate your thesis
What did you think of the ethnography? How has it affected you? (Has it confirmed or changed your opinions or thoughts?)
