The United States spends more on health per capita than any other country. The U.S. spends more on health care than any other industrialized countries. Even though the U.S. health system is the most expensive in the world, comparative analyses consistently show the U.S. underperforms relative to other countries on most dimensions of health performance. Despite these contradictions, the U.S. remains the only major industrial country without universal health coverage. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has helped close the gap for about 20 million plus Americans but it is not a single-payer, universal health care system free or low-cost for all Americans.
