The intent of the first dissertation report is to convert the necessarily outline sketch of the first proposal to a detailed project plan, demonstrating viability, value, intellectual rigour and relevance to the broad aims of the course. It should provide a firm foundation for the project, ensuring clarity and unity of purpose for the student and supervisor, allowing them to have efficient and productive intellectual exchanges as the project develops, and thus a smooth route to timely submission.

The objective of the report is to document progress in moving from a very brief outline of the project (the initial proposal; see order 7431580/my thesis proposal attached) to a detailed plan of what will actually be undertaken. To accomplish this, there is:
• background / context that provides motivation for the study – why would one wish to undertake research on this topic?
• an indication of current practice – in the present case, a UK governmental Manual;
• a overview summary of what has been done in this field – concisely expressed in the form of a table (refer to page 4 in the thesis progressive report 1 example 2);
• a list of references. This need not be comprehensive at this point, but should demonstrate the existence of sufficient material to study and significant reading of this.
