Investigation Responsibilities

This assignment requires you to conduct an interview with an investigator. This interview may be a challenge to
schedule as most investigators carry heavy caseloads. Investigators often have to be politely persistent to find
witnesses and other parties to a crime. Don’t give up on this one! When you do get your interview, dress
professionally, be on time, and have your questions and your notepad ready!
• Document the dates, times, and person(s) you contacted and the notes of your discussion with them to get
this interview arranged.
• Document the name, title, agency, and address for the person you interviewed. Use proper note-taking
• Ask the criminal investigator the following questions:

  1. What information do you record during an investigation? What are the consequences if you inadvertently
    miss recording information?
  2. How do you identify and process evidence? What is the most difficult aspect of this process?
  3. What are the different methods used for identification? What process do you prefer?
  4. What are the best and worst responsibilities of a criminal investigator?
  5. Add additional questions of your choice.
