Biases are often mentioned when discussing police/community member interactions. Unfortunately, people often confuse biases for racial discrimination. To help clarify what biases are, I have included a link to a video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdtvZ844fds&feature=youtu.be
The Prince George’s County Police Department has partnered with the University of Maryland to create a first of its kind implicit bias training that uses cutting-edge technology to immerse police officers in scenarios to help them identify their biases. The link below will take you to a video titled, “2018 UMD Research on Hill / Innovative and Objective Approaches to Bias-Free Policing.” In this video, the panelists talk about the training and in the process talk about implicit bias. Your Mini-Paper assignment is to watch the video and then comment on what you learned from the lecture. Additionally, I want you to point out one fact that you found interesting and how it changed your perception of how implicit biases impact the relationship between the police and the public.
