• Presentation and format: double spaced in Arial 12 font.
• Referencing: use Harvard VI referencing style for the assignment.
• Word count: Your submission should be about 2,500 words in length (+10%). This means that anything beyond the set word quota (i.e. 2750 words
with the +10% allowance) will not be marked—References and appendices do not count towards the word count.
Part 1. Use the lesson plan template (provided in the files section) to prepare a listening and speaking lesson for 1 hour. Your lesson should be based
on communicative and task-based approaches which encourage a range of activities and limit “teacher talking time”.
The lesson should introduce and provide further practice of the present perfect tense.
Context: A young adult group with a range of L1 backgrounds, at a lower intermediate level. The learners are in week 5 of a ten-week intensive
English summer course at a private language school in Manchester. There is no prescribed course book.
(50% of the marks are allocated to this section and it should include 1,500 words)
Part 2. Write a 1,000 word rationale of your lesson plan which accounts for and justifies each stage of your lesson. (You should not use this section to
provide long descriptions of the lesson procedures as these should already be clear from your lesson plan.)
Your rationale will need to include and discuss a number of key concepts in TESOL in order to adequately justify your decisions. (50% of the marks
are allocated to this section)
