Watch the assigned film. Your discussion should include a description of the plot/structure of the film, major characters, and the genre/tone.

First paragraph – Descriptive claim. A descriptive claim is a neutral account of the basic characteristics of the film. Most descriptions of narrative fiction films involve plot events. In your paragraph, describe all of the following:
The major events in the film (inciting incident, major complications, crisis point, climax).
How these events fit into the overall film.
How the filmmaker uses cinematic techniques (shots, sound, lighting, etc.) to depict the events.

Second paragraph – Interpretive claim. An interpretive claim involves a more complex intellectual response than a descriptive claim. Interpretive claims present an argument about a film’s meaning and significance. In your paragraph, describe all of the following:
The motif(s) used in the film. A motif can be a recurring theme or idea that is expressed visually or through dialogue or music.
What you believe the filmmaker was trying to make the audience feel.
What you think the filmmaker was trying to say about human nature.

Third paragraph – Evaluative claim. An evaluative claim expresses your belief that the film is good, bad, or mediocre.
