Take some time to reflect on how you define yourself culturally. Factors to be considered (but are not limited to) include class, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, marriage status, and education level. Use this information to help inform the rest of your paper.
Your paper should have three parts:
(1) Family History – What is your family’s story as it relates to your culture? Consider immigration patterns, historical events, and generational family dynamics;
(2) Rules of Belonging – What are the implicit and explicit rules of belonging to your cultural groups? Consider the etiology and evolution of these rules. Are the rules of your cultural groups the same? Or do they, at times, conflict with one another?

(3) Impact on Cultural Identity – How have these historical factors and rules shaped your current identity. Explore how these factors have impacted your current thinking, behaviors, and values. Throughout this paper, you must reference terminology, theory, and concepts from the assigned reading and, if desired, outside resources (e.g., interviews with family members, additional texts, etc).
Grading: This paper is out of 150 points. See also the grading rubric on Blackboard.

Your paper should be double-spaced 3-4 pages long. Papers should be clearly organized with an introduction and conclusion with the following headings: Family History, Rules of Belonging and Impact on Cultural Identity.
