What have to be in the story is: Identity: My name is . My journey at a new land started when I immigrated to the US from Cuba, almost seven years ago today. It was an extremely difficult decision to leave all my family and extended family behind, but I had my husband coming with me, and I was in search of a free and better future. Back in my life in Cuba, economic difficulties was the thing that has dominated the life of my family and my childhood as well. Thus, another intention of me and my husband was to uplift the economic conditions of my family as well, by helping them financially or providing them with opportunities, once we arrived in the US. In US, I believe most people first notice my ethnicity. I have not actively been oppressed for my ethnicity yet, however, I have seen in some local convenience or other stores, the owners tend to look at me a bit more cautiously, as if they are afraid that I might steal from the counters (Inclusive Teaching, n.d.). In any case, I am proud of my ethnicity and am always quick to speak up about my country and my life back there when someone is interested. Still, the part I still struggle with is my English speaking abilities. There are still some difficulties in that front that I am working out, and if often makes me ashamed of myself in conversations. I believe that my life in US is a general improvement over how it was back in Cuba, and I expect to help my family better their lives as well. For example, recently I have helped one of my cousins emigrate here, so that she may also have a better life.
