Weedie’s is an Irish owned DIY Store. They are the market leader in their sector within Ireland offering an extensive range of DIY products, Paints, Lighting, Homestyle, Housewares, Bathroom Accessories, Building, Gardening products and Fitted Kitchens. They supply almost everything needed for home improvement and gardening and have built their reputation on offering the most comprehensive range of quality products for every area of your home at competitive prices.

As they have over 30,000 lines of stock, they are keen to catagorise them to see if they can make decisions as to whether to withdraw the products from their stores and to establish if it’s possible to pare down the number of suppliers that are managed within their supply chain. Managers can decide when to make key changes to a core product by analysing its position within the product life-cycle.

Weedies are currently reviewing the product lifecycles across their range of stock keeping units and have grouped them as either mature products (e.g. DIY tools, electrical and plumbing equipment), seasonal products (e.g. garden furniture and BBQ’s in summer) and trending products (latest interior design trends such as grey paints and wallpaper).

Before they make decision as to withdraw the product, the management want to understand the various lifecycles that are being used as catagories and their impact on the purchasing role within the supply chain.

You are required to present a MEMO to management outlining :-

•The three product life cycles being discussed,
•The impact that each life cycle has on the purchasing role
•The impact of withdrawing products from market, leading to paring down the number of supplies on the purchasing role.
