In the business environment, strategic thinking skills are necessary for solving problems, making clear decisions and coming to correct conclusions. Everyday decisions and a constant evolution of strategic decisions must be made in order to stay competitive in any industry.

In this project, you will research a set of two competing companies, develop a SWOT analysis for one of them and write a comprehensive argument supporting a change in its strategy that you believe will give it a competitive advantage over its competition.

Perform the following steps:

Step 1: Research.
Choose one of the following pairs of competitive companies to research:

Coca–Cola and PepsiCo
Verizon and Sprint
Gather as much information as possible on your chosen companies. Look at websites, financials and press releases. Reflect on their current strategies. Are the strategies working? What problems do you see? Can you see clear strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats? As you begin to analyze the data, consider what the two companies will need to do to stay ahead of the competition, including each other.

Step 2: Create a SWOT analysis.
Choose one of the two companies you have researched and create a SWOT analysis to identify what strengths and weaknesses you think the company should pursue to stay competitive.

Step 3: Write an executive summary.
Write a 1,250–word executive summary (statement of the problem, background information, description of any alternatives, and major conclusions) that includes your reflection, analysis and solutions (with alternatives). The summary should also include a comprehensive written argument to support your proposed change to the company’s strategic plan.
