Bernstein (2016) from our week 3 lesson listed the 10 steps to help facet crisis communication and the key ones that stood out to me were identifying and isolating the issue, developing a crisis management team, and after action reporting. If those in management can develop a team to turn the problem over to that they trust and feel would be best at coming to a solution, this would take the burden off of them so they can handle other issues that come with managing an organization. Once everything has been resolved to the best of their ability the after action reporting plays a major role as well. Knowing what did and did not work throughout the crisis will help with future planning and allow for preventative measure to be altered before the next crisis occurs. 2. The major implications for developing future leaders within crisis leadership come from this lesson’s leadership principles and practices that include: creative planning, the ability to lead, being an innovator, changing agents, flexibility, seeking information, and having the ability to create visions (Kets de Vries, 2014). All these attributes speak to the capabilities of someone who is willing to take charge to ensure crisis can be handled, all while taking an unbiased approach and remaining open to the possibility that the plan in place may need to chance at a moment’s notice. Future leaders also need to know what has and has not worked in the past as far as seeking information so they will have some kind of idea of how they want to move forward when handling crisis.
