Wilting Assignment – Through an astonishing phenomenon, as yet unexplained, B oiarynia Morozova finds herself transported from Moscow in the 1660s to St. Petersburg in the late eighteenth century. She proceeds to have a conversation with Nadezhda Durova, Ekaterina Dashkova, and Catherine the Great (or at least two of the three) about Russia and their respective idea about female roles and identities. To put it mildly, they have profoundly different outlooks, seemingly worlds apart from one another, even though all of them were bom and raised in considerable privilege. Again and again they come back to three topics: patriarchy, individuality, and the capacity or morality of women acting independently. What are their respective views on these topics, i.e., their core beliefs? Are there any points on which they can find common ground? How does each of them attempt to persuade the others that she has it right? Are any minds changed as a result?
