Steel Beam Builders signed a contract with ABC General Contractor to erect a prefabricated metal building for use as a hangar building for Speedy Aircraft Inc. The Steel Beam Contract with ABC was for erection labor only. ABC was to provide the building which they would purchase from Metals Forever, a steel building fabricator. ABC provided Steel Beam a simple bar chart schedule which consisted of only fifteen bars delineating the major building components such as foundation, exterior walls, roof, etc. All of the building components were planned to arrive on site in the first month and the project was to reach final completion within twelve months. When the project started only about one fourth of the building components was delivered in the first month and the last components were not delivered until two months after planned completion. There was also a significant amount of rework necessitated by the metal building parts being delivered out of their planned construction sequence and smudged or mismarked or unmarked identification data on the parts. A significant financial loss was suffered by Steel Beam.
