Choose any film from this course so far and consider it in terms of the aesthetic rubric for film translations

of literature that is found in chapter 4 of the Literature into Film textbook. (See page 99 but the rubric is

discussed throughout the chapter.)
For convenience, here are the 4 points of the rubric from page 99:

  1. The film must communicate definite ideas concerning the integral meaning and value of the literary text,

as the filmmakers interpret it.

  1. The film must exhibit a collaboration of filmmaking skills.
  2. The film must demonstrate an audacity to create a work that stands as a world apart, that exploits the
literatuare in such a way that a self-reliant, but related, aesthetic offspring is born.
  3. The film cannot be so self-governing as to be completely independent of or antithetical to the source
    material.
Write an essay in which you evaluate one of the films from this course in terms of this aesthetic. Your

thesis should be about whether or not the film is a successful translation of the literature. Give examples

to support your arguments. Your essay should be about 700 words long (about 3 pages).
