Part A: Theoretical Perspectives

As you consider how children best develop and learn, describe and explain your philosophy based on the belief and practice as supported by theoretical approaches, current research, classroom discussions, and field participation and observations.

This section should address the following:

  1. Addressed theoretical considerations influencing children’s growth and development and provide examples as support. (i.e., Piaget, Maslow, Erikson, Urie Bronfenbrenner, Skinner, Vygotsky, Albert Bandura, etc.) : Comprehensively discussed (at least 3) theoretical considerations influencing children’s growth and development and provided specific examples of classroom application.
  2. Application of NAEYC Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP); how has this influenced your planning for children’s learning experiences. Address TWO essential principles not addressed above that relates to the application of developmentally appropriate practice.

Part B: Teacher Role
Discuss and explain the Early Childhood Education teacher’s role in supporting young children’s learning and development. This section should address the following elements:

  1. The purpose of play in children’s learning and development
  2. Children as active learners who construct their knowledge
  3. The role of the physical environment in supporting learning
  4. Supporting children’s individual differences, learning styles and addressing children with special needs
  5. Promoting/ Supporting parent involvement and home, school and community relationships; how might this be prompted; how have you applied this in your own practice

Part C- Personal Reflection

Reflect on what you have learned in the course and on your experiences as a teacher candidate. Discuss three strengths and three areas for development which you plan to improve in your practice.

Your reflection should present us with a view of how you anticipate making a positive impact on children’s lives based on your understanding and application of the early childhood education principles and concepts.

  1. At this point in your professional development, what would you consider to be your most robust characteristics as an early childhood teacher? List three such attribute and explain why you believe these to be your strengths.
  2. Reflect on three areas that present the most challenge to you. Identify steps you plan to take towards enhancing your performance in these areas.
