Citing Altschuler, class notes, and any other sources, trace and explain the developments in American Popular Music from the end of the Swing Era (approx. 1940) to the emergence of Rock ‘n’ Roll (approx. 1955).
There are many ways to tackle this assignment, including avoiding music theory and parlance altogether. You may look at Americans’ relationship to music, or you may look at the music per SE, or even focus on the personalities most closely associated with popular music.
