Any papers that engage in plagiarism will result in the student failing the course WITHOUT EXCEPTION. In the case that there is a suspicion of plagiarism, three faculty members will be convened to evaluate the paper and speak with the student concerned.

Papers MUST bring quotations from the texts studied; they must be structured by paragraphs; they must provide a Works Cited list for primary and any secondary texts.

  1. Take the premise that every memoir is motivated by a driving question (and not necessarily a story or an answer) about the author’s personal experience. Choose two memoirs we have studied (or one) and seek to identify their driving questions (it is extremely useful in this case to read the entire text). What does the writer burn to understand better? To see anew? To learn? Consider how the question organizes the way the story is told, what incidents take on a great deal of significance, what the text includes and what it excludes, where the text begins and ends.
