You are working at a non-profit LGBT community health center that provides free HIV and STD testing, as well free counseling services for mental health. Your boss asks you to head up an ad campaign that will be used to raise awareness of the center’s mission of offering these free services to the public. You decide to use photography to convey your messages.

If you were to take a photograph to use for this ad campaign, that might help evoke some feelings within people of the LGBT community such that they felt the need to get tested, or seek mental health assistance, what type of photograph would you take?

Describe what your photograph might look like. Think back to examples of photographs we examined during the course. Would you use people? A single individual? A family? A group of friends? What would the context of the photograph be? Would it include an emotional setting like a hospital room? The bar or gay club settings? Would you use props? Or would you prefer an outdoor environment?

After describing your photograph, comment on what you hope the image will convey to its audience? What feelings does the photograph mean to elicit? How do you think the photograph would be most effective? How will the photograph make people more or less connected to the underlying health issue? How would the photograph make people more or less connected to the LGBT community?
