Strategy to cultivate a spirit of inquiry and overcome barriers
Todays’s healthcare environment poses many challenges for nurses on the front line, providing care to patients who present with complex medical conditions. Therefore, the advanced practice nurse must foster a spirit of inquiry and bring the best evidence to the practice setting to provide safe, cost-effective, quality care. According to Bermudez (2021), providing hands-on, evidence-based practice (EBP) training can significantly impact nurses’ knowledge and engagement in conducting research. Therefore, for nurse practitioners and leaders in healthcare, it is vital to understand and identify barriers to EBP implementation and formulate mitigation strategies to overcome these barriers (Caramanica & Spiva 2018). In addition, these same authors noted that through training, EBP mentors, and improved knowledge in conducting research, caregivers showed increased interest in seeking ways to improve outcomes through inquiry.
