Vignettes are short, narratives that capture a moment in time. They usually do not follow the form of typical narrative stories or pieces. They are emotional (funny, scary, angering, sad, exuberant, or whimsical) but not overly maudlin. In fact, every page in The House on Mango Street is a vignette. The whole book is made of them. Some teach implied lessons while others are simply reminiscent.
For this writing assignment, you will write 3-4 vignettes of your own for a total of 3-4 pages. Feel free to write about whatever you choose but they must follow the style of a vignette.
