1.) Why we chose Wegmans:
Wegmans was named number three on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For.
Wegmans, a supermarket chain, is a realistic place for students to work for as opposed to larger corporate companies.
We are interested in finding out how Wegmans integrates quality workplace practices from the higher levels, all the way down to the workers on the floor.
It is also a local company for a few of us and we are interested in learning more about the history of the company.
2.) Integrating theories and concepts:

Most supermarkets have a negative connotation in regards to job satisfaction but Wegmans consistently has a great reputation as a place to work for

Wegmans’ Scholarship Program has given out $120 million in scholarships to over 30,000 employees.
Stress
Wegmans ensures management familiarise themselves with all of the staff to make sure they aren’t taken off guard with anything the employees are dealing with.
Empowers management to work with its staff through flexible scheduling

Training
On-the-job training for multiple sectors creates opportunity for employee promotion
Wegmans spends $1.5 – $2 million on labor costs prior to a new store opening

History of Company
Founded in 1916 and remains a family-owned company today, the company has hit many milestones over the years and has influenced the supermarket industry tremendously.
Organizational Culture –
The individual’s well-being and success is important at Wegmans. Making a difference in the community, as well as empowering people to make beneficial decisions are at the top of their values. Listening to employees and respect towards everyone is what Wegmans strives to maintain at every level of management.
Organizational Structure –
Transparency from the top all the way to the bottom, management informs staff of changes well before they are implemented so that there is time to acclimate themselves
Management offering more flexible scheduling creates close relationships between echelons
Upper management makes trips to stores relatively frequently to talk to employees and see where experiences are lacking or functioning as planned
Leadership
Wegmans is a family-owned company, founded in 1916, headquartered in Rochester, NY. Danny Wegman is chairman; Colleen Wegman, his daughter, is president and CEO. Danny’s daughter Nicole Wegman is sr. vice president.

4.) Gathering Data:
Our team plans on using the internet as our main source of information, looking across various websites for anything pertaining to Wegmans and the workplace. It is important to us to find information directly from Wegmans in regards to how they manage their workers, as well as information from the workers’ perspectives.
5.) Team Coordination:
Our team will communicate through email and the GroupMe app. Additionally, we plan to meet regularly to make sure we’ve met the goals set for the week. Everyone will be given a certain task but collaboration is encouraged with each goal.
