The World Health Organization (1948) defines health and wellness as “…a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
Wellness is comprised of several dimensions: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, social, and environmental. The implications of these dimensions are profound for a child or adolescent’s holistic development. Today’s school counselors are front-line professionals in efforts to promote and maintain student wellness in schools and beyond. School counselors emphasize the traditional core of the profession and are developmental experts. They also expand into the realm of child and adolescent mental health issues, crisis intervention, and developmental guidance initiatives specifically focused on promoting wellness and prevention education. School counselors are ethically responsible to promote wellness and prevent child and adolescent issues in schools as well.
For this Assignment, review the case studies listed in Sink, C. (2011) Mental Health Interventions for School Counselors in this week’s resources. Select a case study and identify the issues requiring prevention, wellness, and resilience.
