Write an essay thoughtfully exploring and analyzing William Shakespeare Tragedy Hamlet.
Prompt: The purpose of drama (especially revenge tragedies) is to evoke an emotional response from the audience. In what ways does Shakespeare manipulate the emotions or responses of the audience? Take great care to analyze how Shakespeare uses language in your in-depth study of the play. Embrace the language, massage the diction and syntax, and caress figurative devices- explain how they work. Do not merely summarize- move beyond what happens, but how and why they happen.
This is for AP LITERATURE- so must be very sophisticated and MUST have direct quotes from the book. THE THESIS is very important as it has to be a defendable claim pertaining to your own opinion of the prompt!! Don’t ever use the word figurative language, or have your thesis be Shakespeare does this with metaphor, simile, etc. Must be very thoughtfuol with lots of INSIGHTFUL ANalysis. He will most likely use an AP RUBRIC and this is a cumulative HAMLET assignment based on the ENTIRE BOOK. SO it is not a light assignment, and needs to be written at a very high level! He wants us to go beyond the literal meaning of the book.
