The United States (and the world) was a much different place following World War I. Understandably, new groups were finding ways to rise in power and to improve their financial prospects. The “Old Guard” understandably sought to hold on to their privileged position for as long as they could.

Was there any way for the United States to transition to “modern America” without experiencing the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan, without implementing the National Origins Act, without increased Jim Crow laws, without the divorce rate going to unprecedented levels, or without the Red Scare reprisals? As President, how would you have softened this transitional time period? Or, would you have stayed above the fray?
