The first ten of these Amendments are known as the Bill of Rights. Please read them fully and try to get a handle on what all ten of them mean. Then, think about what you have read since the midterm examination about the evolution of American Freedom in the new United States under the Constitution. In a well-written essay, I would like you to lay out the multiple ways that the rights guaranteed under this Bill of Rights have been violated by State Governments as well as the National Government in Washington. This should include violations that span from 1789 all the way to the end of Reconstruction in 1877. To do this, you may need to read ahead to the end of the textbook so you can know what happened in the United States during the Civil War and in the 12 years which follow it. There is much for you to consider focusing upon — including, but not limited to: Women, African Americans, Native Americans, Immigrants, Individual States and “States Rights,” Working People, the Poor, etc. This list is not here to make you think you have to mite about all of these different groups — it is more of a partial guide so you can begin to think about the various ways you can tackle this question
