The purpose of this assignment is to help learners begin to appraise research evidence in order to determine applicability to advanced professional practice.
Students will be assigned a data-based article to appraise (i.e. evaluate, critique) using provided criteria. They will also be assigned a peer review partner and provided directions for professional peer reviewing. This assignment will be submitted and graded individually in two parts, a draft and a final.
Objectives of this assignment include:

  1. Rapidly and critically appraise research evidence using selected criteria
  2. Demonstrate competency in assessing evidence levels and quality
  3. Articulate concisely in writing the problem, purpose, study design, sample population, study procedures, findings, analysis, conclusions, and implications of a research study
  4. Determine applicability of evidence to professional practice
  5. Participate in constructive, professional peer review
