The purpose of this assignment is to help learners begin to appraise research evidence in order to determine applicability to advanced professional practice.
Students will be assigned a data-based article to appraise (i.e. evaluate, critique) using provided criteria. They will also be assigned a peer review partner and provided directions for professional peer reviewing. This assignment will be submitted and graded individually in two parts, a draft and a final.
Objectives of this assignment include:
- Rapidly and critically appraise research evidence using selected criteria
- Demonstrate competency in assessing evidence levels and quality
- Articulate concisely in writing the problem, purpose, study design, sample population, study procedures, findings, analysis, conclusions, and implications of a research study
- Determine applicability of evidence to professional practice
- Participate in constructive, professional peer review
