Listen to Bach’s little fugue in 2 forms: the traditional version we have been listening to on the organ, and the version on this page that is arranged, or transcribed, for a wind ensemble (concert band).

Then:

briefly compare to two recordings (instrumentation, tempo, etc). Obviously, they are both fugues so they have the same form.

discuss the merits of the transcription. Is it worthwhile? Effective? Does it change the mood of the piece? Is it easier or more challenging to follow the fugue subject in one of the examples?

Then, what other type of ensemble do you feel it could be transcribed for and work? String quartet? Full orchestra? Classic rock band? The Beatles???? Don’t be afraid to be imaginative.
