So much of what we know about the CJS come from the media, be it from the news, cop dramas, or documentaries. We often take what we see as the truth, but in reality messages about the CJS are framed by the filmmaker. This is true of shows like SVU and documentaries. For this assignment I would like you to 1) watch 2 documentaries from the list below, 2) write up a comparative film analysis that addresses the questions listed below. The goal here is not to just describe two films, but to deconstruct and analyze the messages about race, crime, and justice presented to us in film. I have chosen documentary as the medium because unlike TV shows or fictional movies, documentaries are supposed to present life as it really is. Whether the medium fits this goal is part of the assignment.
