Contact (Carl Sagan) offers the question, are we really alone in the universe. Using the details in the book (what happened in the story – message, machine, travel), argue (with sources) whether or not you believe we are alone or not. Is there current evidence for extraterrestrial life? If our world is in trouble (i.e war, climate change, extinction), would it be feasible to exert efforts to find extraterrestrial life in order to help save ourselves? Are we constrained to our physical limitations here on earth and must accept the consequences of natural selection and evolution like in the Galapagos? (By Kurt Vonnegut). How far would the human race push science (morally and ethically) to ensure our survival on our planet and in the universe? How accepting is society of scientific progress today? Have your views of science and progression changed since the beginning of this class?

While this is something of an ‘opinion’ paper, and not a lab report or a paper detailing the results of a study, this is still a scientific paper, and your thoughts and ideas should be thoroughly explained and appropriately supported.
