A side effect of football is CTE. Is its possible to prevent this, can it be caught earlier?

Assuming CTE is an inevitable side-effect of playing football, is there any research being done to suggest it can be caught earlier? If so, is it possible that there might be a way to reverse or manage the issues that come with tau development?
