According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, Covid-19’s impact on the hotel industry forecasts that hotels are on pace to suffer the loss
of more than $500 million in room revenue per day based on current and future reported occupancy rates. As we know, many have been laid off and
the travel industry is suffering losses beyond anyone’s predictions. Housekeeping operations will be critical pre and post pandemic. As we have
learned this semester, many hotel companies are operating now to accommodate first-responders, front-line staff, Covid19 patients in isolation and
displaced persons who need a safe shelter while others remain closed down.
Looking ahead, the hospitality industry needs to respond quickly when indicators suggest that it is safe to travel. Mike Marshall, president and CEO of
Marshall Hotels and Resorts discusses the changes the industry faces and the challenges hoteliers will confront in ramping up operations He
discusses topics such as cleaning procedures, labor issues and how to ensure their guests that the hotel is sanitized and safe.
