Compare two scenes from the three available options:
Option #1
Compare the use of flashback in Once upon a Time in the West and The Night Porter.
Option #2
Compare the use of close-up in Once upon a Time in the West and Black Sabbath.
Option #3
Compare the representation of a troubled conscience in Good Morning Night and Il Divo.
Instructions:
a) Contextualize the two scenes within the narrative of each film: where is this scene located in the film?
What is its relevance?
b) Compare and/or contrast settings, mise en scène and cinematography (address at least one aspect for each category in each scene)
c) Compare and/or contrast the characters’ traits within their respective environments: how are they presented to the viewer? How do they interact?
d) Compare and/or contrast diegetic and extra diegetic sound (dialogue and music)
e) How do these scenes help us interpret major themes of the film?
