Complete the Minister of Health Country Report
This week, you will consider two key aspects of social/environmental health at the population level: gender
equity and sustainability. For this report, focus on MDG #3 Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
and MDG#7 Ensure Environmental Sustainability. Report on your country’s situation along the following
indicators, using at least 3 unique sources:
1) Gender equity
Ratio of girls to boys in primary, secondary and tertiary education (UNESCO)
Ratio of literate women to men, 15-24 years old (UNESCO)
Share of women in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector (ILO)
Proportion of seats held by women in national parliament (IPU)
Other indicators used by your country to measure gender equity and women’s empowerment
2) Environmental Sustainability

  • Proportion of land area covered by forest (FAO)
  • Energy use (kg oil equivalent) per $1 GDP (PPP) (IEA, World Bank)
  • Proportion of population using solid fuels (WHO)
  • Proportion of population with sustainable access to an improved water source, urban and rural (UNICEFWHO)
  • Proportion of population with access to improved sanitation, urban and rural (UNICEF-WHO)
  • Proportion of households with access to secure tenure (UN-HABITAT)
