Also known as public international law and law of nations, is the set of rules, norms, and standards generally
recognized as binding between nations. It establishes normative guidelines and a common conceptual framework for states across a broad
range of domains, including war, diplomacy, trade, and human rights. International Law has been my passion since I was a high school
student. Therefore, I also studied Law in Baku University. My teachers encouraged me to continue studying International Law. I used to
study Karabakh conflict for five years. While I learned about this conflict involving my beloved country as well as conflicts in other
countries, I also investigated the principles and set of norms of International Law in general. I have found that international law should
be the key to end any conflicts in the world. International Lawpromotes peace, justice, common interests, and trade. I personally need to
say that International Law is also unique as it allows you to study an entirely different legal system altogether — and international law is
a legal system like no other.
International law usually deals with the law governing relations between nations. With the rise of human rights acts, it now also
concerns how states treat their own citizens. It includes: International Human Rights Law. Thus, I have decided to choose International
Law as I plan to be a Lawyer and Diplomat who will surely deal with relations with other nations. The international law sector itself
includes lawyers who represent the government abroad, and are therefore considered to be public sector employees, as well as lawyers
who specialize in international law but work within private firms. It makes International Law a promising field and a good career. I have
my family and close friends who support me and motivate me. I completely believe that I will be able to make it.
I believe that to study International Law, you don’t only need sufficient academic performance and eagerness, experiences that may
contribute to the success of your study are also necessary. Therefore, I would like to share some of my experiences related to relations
with other communities. I am currently a member of the Youth organization of Azerbaijan-Israel International Association called
“AzIz”. With the support of “AzIz”, I could get involved in several events including the one held at Synagogue of Mountain Jews and
met with the Head of the Community of Azerbaijan’s Mountain Jews Mr. Milikh Yevdayev. From him, I have learned about history,
lifestyle and culture of Jews in Azerbaijan for centuries.
In August of 2021, with the support of AzIz, I visited the famous Red Town which has been believed to be the world’s only all-Jewish
town outside Israel and the United States. It was an enlightening and interesting visit.
Together with the elders and rabbis, we visited the Museum of Mountain Jews, the Information Center of Krasnaya Sloboda, the
Synagogue and the Jewish Religious College. We met with representatives of the youth and got acquainted with the infrastructure of the
village.
Apart from that, I am also a member of Azerbaijan Young Diplomats’ Union. This non-governmental organization brings together
students studying international relations and law. On 15th of Jul 2021, Azerbaijan Young Diplomats’ Union held an international
conference and the topic was “ Interfaith Dialogue-Azerbaijan-Israel- Russia.” Among the participants, there were Israel’s Ambassador
to Azerbaijan Mr. George Deek, representative of International Charity Foundation of Mountain Jews STMEGI, Chief of the Azeri office
of Azerbaijan-Israel International Association “AzIz” Mr. Vahid Bayramov, Members of Azerbaijani Parliament, representative of
“ALEF” Russian Youth Jewish Organization Mr. Abram Ixilov and Head of the Community of Azerbaijan’s European Jews Mr. Evgeny
Brenneysen.
There is also one thing I would like to add here. On August 29 to 30, I had a special opportunity to attend a conference conducted by
ASAP – Azerbaijan Student Alumni Platform. In this conference, I talked about the bilateral relation between Azerbaijan and Israel. I
humbly explained how Israel has been a great help to Azerbaijan in dealing with Karabakh Conflict. Azerbaijan Military could have
progressive weapon technology from Israel and Israel has helped Azerbaijan restore Karabakh after the conflict.
I believe that my organizational experiences would help me with my study later. As International Law deals with the law governing
relations between nations, my organizational experiences also deal with a relation between my country Azerbaijan and Israel. I myself
really appreciate the existence of the Jewish community in my country and as much as I love my homeland, I also love the Azerbaijani
Jewish people who are my fellow countrymen. In addition, Azerbaijan and Israel themselves have very good diplomatic relationship that
has been established for years. With the strong relationship that exists between the Jewish community and other communities in
Azerbaijan, the relationship between Azerbaijan and Israel itself is getting stronger. Both Israel and Azerbaijan share the same goal of
promoting peace and justice for all citizens of the world. Based on this fact, it is important for me to study International Law and I have
to tell that the best institution to study it is the Hebrew University Of Jerusalem.
I choose Hebrew University of Jerusalem to start the journey of my career as this University is consistently ranked among the top
universities worldwide. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is Israel’s premier academic and research institution that has been
serving 23,000 students from 90 countries. This prominent University trains the public, scientific, educational and professional
leadership of Israel and world. Jerusalem city in particular gives a special impression because apart from being the original capital of
Israel since a long time ago, this city is also a gathering place for many ethnic groups and diverse cultures. This situation should help
students gain more understanding about dealing with other people with multicultural backgrounds. Moreover, Israel itself is a land of
innovation, also known as the “Start-Up Country”. Israel is ranked as the 3rd most innovative country in the world based on World
Economic Forum Global Competitive Index). Studying in Israel will give me the opportunity to experience and participate in Israel’s
vibrant early culture and ecosystem.
