Take a look at these 6 circles and decide how you would group them into categories:

For your discussion, explain the categories you created and how you decided to group circles together and
why. How many groups did you create and which circles belong to each group? Are there specific physical
features or characteristics that led to your decisions? Which features seemed most important and why? Take a
look at some of the other categories classmates have posted (if available) or other possible groupings and
discuss why you think yours is the right one.
Now discuss some of the human physical characteristics that define a “race”. Explain whether there is a natural
or “correct” categorization of human races. What does this activity tell us about the social construction of
“race”?
