Northey, Tepperman & Albanese (2015) argue that “writing is about making choices: about which ideas you want to present and how you want to present them” (p. 2).
One of the most important choices that you will make when starting to write academically, is the decision about what you actually want to write about – what will be your research question?
This first assignment is designed to start the process of writing by asking you to consider and propose three potential research questions, pertaining to the topic: ‘From Catcalling to Femicide: Exploring Violence Against Women’, one of which will ultimately guide your capstone assignment.

Assignment Description:
For this assignment, you are asked to provide three research questions, or areas of interest that you are curious about exploring in your capstone paper. These will not be your hypothesis – or your thesis statement – but rather what you are wondering about and intend to understand more fulsomely, by way of your final paper. Each question must be presented separately and be different, although the overall topic can be the same. For example, you may be interested in campus sexual assault and have three questions pertaining to this overall issue, but they must each consider a different aspect or area of inquiry, within the larger topic of campus sexual assault.
Within the presentation of each question, you must also consider the following:
• Why is this a problem “worth working on” (Northey, et al., 2015, p. 14)?
• What type of design will this question lead to?
• What types of things do you anticipate ‘finding’ or coming to a conclusion about?
• What might be some potential snags, or difficulties, in exploring this topic?
This assignment should be 2-3 pages in length, typed, double spaced, 12 font with no larger than 2.54cm margins. Outside sources are not required, however you will likely utilize the Northey, Tepperman & Albanese (2015) text, and must reference as appropriate.
