1.) How did the face of black America change in the media and the arts in the late 1970’s and 1980’s? Offer some examples and explain the overall contribution, either positive or negative, of your examples. You can include musicians, TV shows, and more. Use quality sources (not encyclopedias or sources without an author’s name). Be sure to be using the text, read the chapters before posting.
2.) What was the Million Man March? How did it compare to the March on Washington decades earlier? Was it successful? Remember to read and think critically about your answer.
3.) What occurred during the presidential campaign of Jesse Jackson? What other black political leaders were important prior to Barack Obama’s entrance onto the national stage? Focus on the 1980s and 1990s, as that is our time frame.
4.) Your lessons cover some pretty recent material, material that historians have barely had time to digest. What do reasonably scholarly sources say about Hurricane Katrina and/or the Rodney King case and riots? Are you surprised by any of the academic thought, does it differ from what you remember in the news? Use sources that are not blatantly propaganda, and that have an author’s name attached to them. No generic sources. For this, a recent article is fine, but it needs an author with some authority or journalism.
