FORMAT AND CONTENT

  1. State your Awareness of this goal and discuss your desire to change. The behavior
    you want to acquire is the “target” behavior. Discuss fully how you behave now and how
    you would rather behave and what the benefits would be for yourself and others.
  2. Describe your Plan for Change step by step by defining the behavior which you will
    implement and describe your plan for review of progress use clear, understandable
    terms and avoiding generalities, such as “I want to be happier.” Make your goal attainable:
    too easy is no challenge; too difficult results in frustration and failure; a moderate goal
    will cause you to stretch and grow while able to achieve your goal. Utilize a 30 day time
    frame.
  3. Explain clearly how you will measure your progress. Ultimately a graph would
    illustrate your results. The first 3 days of the project is the Baseline in which you
    observe your behavior and then on Day 4 implement your new plan of action. If you
    are implementing a new behavior, begin on Day 1 of your project.
  4. *Provide a meaningful tangible reward for success contingent upon specifically
    improving the target behavior. This means giving yourself a material item or participating
    in a desired event, yet does not have to involve money. You may reward yourself during
    the project for progress attained or wait until the end of the project. One of the most
    self- sabotaging things students do is fail to reward themselves for their success.
  5. * Provide a meaningful tangible consequence for failing to stay with your commitment to change or grow. This means that when you fail to perform you desired behavior.
