You will attend the “virtual” lecture by Dr. Miller-Lanning. Listen carefully to what she says, paying attention to
how she looks at art and speaks about it. She models how you can write and speak about art. Take note of her
ideas, the themes she points out, art techniques, and how she finds relationships between a wide variety of
images of and by women. Attending the lecture is not just about jotting down verbatim notes and repeating
them. Doing so will not generate a good grade. The objectives are to see, to question, to think critically, and to
assess and arrive at conclusions about the exhibition, artists, and theme.
You will critique the exhibition, much as art critics do. Your objective now is to persuade your readers to visit
the exhibition. You are writing for a general audience of peer students on campus.
